World War II, during the siege of Budapest – Kata, a young mother, is separated from her husband, fleeing from the Nazi authorities. Unable to go back home, she gets false papers from the antifascist resistance and leaves Budapest with a new identity. While waiting for the war to end, she shares an apartment with Jànos, an influential figure of the resistance, who pretends to be her husband. Haunted by their past and their hopes, the pressures of the hardships of war bring them close. Love takes the place of mistrust.
