The young and naïve Claude, believer in God and son of a patriotic farmer from the provinces, visits New York before joining the army and leaving for the war in Vietnam. While there, he finds himself in the middle of a hippie happening in Central Park and falls completely under the spell of the beautiful Sheila. The pacifist leader of the hippies encourages him to declare his love while trying to dissuade him from going to war. Claude has his first taste of freedom, and drugs, and little by little stops believing in all that he had thought was true until then.
